About

This is a blog about wooding.

Wooding is about identifying, gathering, cutting, stacking, seasoning, and burning wood for fuel.

This is a blog about wood chores because: 1) wooding is cool all on it’s own, and; 2) because I think that doing chores builds the kind of knowledge and ethics that enable social movements and social resilience to succeed, and I want to theorize about chores more systematically. So I’m blogging about one of my main chores. You do not have to believe in #2 to enjoy #1.

My name is Max, and I live in the woods around the bay on the island of Newfoundland. I have a wood burning stove, which means I do a lot of wooding. Or else I freeze. I’m also a professor, a geek, and someone who likes dirty puns, all of which come together nicely in a blog about wooding.

If you want more, the introduction to the blog is here, in the first post: Wooding, what?

A person crouches down with a chainsaw in front of a tree to cut it. There is a very small, skinny stick in the foreground.
My favourite thing about the photo is that only the stick in front is in focus, and the rest of us are background. And it’s a pretty average stick.
